What's a clinical psychologist &
what can I expect in therapy?

Clinical psychologists are uniquely poised — distinct from other mental health disciplines — to provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment of mental health disorders. At the same time, a diagnosis never defines you. My approach is person-first and strengths-based, meaning I see you as a whole human being whose experiences, culture, and relationships are just as important as any symptoms you may be navigating. Therapy with me is collaborative. We will explore patterns and develop skills and practical tools for progress. We actively identify and build on what's already working in your life, using your existing strengths as the foundation for meaningful, lasting change.

Specialities

My theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and third-wave behavioral approaches — including DBT, ACT, and trauma-focused therapies. This means our work together will explore the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and actions, and how shifting patterns in one area can create meaningful change in the others. Much of my clinical training and research has been grounded in culturally responsive, diversity-focused care. I am an ally for communities that have historically been underserved or marginalized in mental health settings, and I welcome and affirm clients of all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences. In addition to helping you address general mental health concerns/mood disorders, I specialize in treating trauma/PTSD and addictive behaviors.

Trauma/PTSD

Have you experienced something that has stayed with you and leads you to feel unsafe or hypervigilant ? Are you finding it hard to be with yourself, others, and the world around you? Using two of the most effective evidence-based treatments available — Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) — we will work together to process what happened and restore meaning and agency.

Betrayal Trauma/Infidelity

Have you recently discovered a partner's infidelity or problematic sexual behaviors? Are you struggling to make sense of what happened, questioning your reality, or feeling isolated with pain you can't easily share? This kind of betrayal is a specific form of trauma — and it deserves specialized care. Using the APSATS Multi-Dimensional Partner Trauma Model, we will focus on your healing, your safety, and your path forward.

Addictive Behaviors

Are you finding it hard to stop a behavior even when it's hurting you or the people you love? Are substances, sex, internet use, or other compulsive patterns showing up in ways you didn't intend? Whether you're just beginning to question your relationship with a behavior or have been struggling for years, this is a space without judgment. Using Motivational Interviewing and evidence-based approaches, we will explore what's driving the cycle and build tools for change.

Mood Disorders

Are you experiencing persistent sadness, loss of pleasure, or racing thoughts that are getting in the way of your daily life? Perhaps you are navigating a difficult life transition and need space to process. Whether you're managing depression, anxiety, or simply want to reconnect with joy and purpose, therapy can help. Using CBT and related approaches, we will work together to understand your patterns and build a life that feels more like yours.

Why Work With Me

A practice built around fit, not volume

Nautilus Mental Health is intentionally small. I see a limited number of clients each week so that I can show up fully for every session. Unlike group practices or hospital settings where clinicians are often assigned patients, I conduct a consultation with every prospective client before we begin. That conversation isn't a formality — and it isn't one-sided. We are both assessing fit. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, get a sense of my approach and personality, and determine whether this feels right for you. I'm doing the same. If we're not a match, I'll tell you honestly and help you find someone who is.

Treatment grounded in both science and community

I am an active research scientist, currently serving as principal investigator on NIH-funded studies. But the framework that shapes my research isn't a top-down model of Western science. I work as a public health researcher in partnership with Indigenous communities, grounded in community-based participatory approaches — which means the knowledge, values, and goals of the communities I partner with are the center of the work. That same philosophy shapes how I work with you: as the expert in your own life.

Training from the source

My clinical skills come from gold-standard sources. I had the privilege of completing my doctorate at the University of Washington, one of the most highly regarded clinical psychology programs in the country. At UW, I had the rare opportunity to train directly with Dr. Marsha Linehan — the developer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Dr. Alan Marlatt's lab — the research group that introduced harm reduction and relapse prevention; and Dr. Bonnie Duran — a foundational voice in community-based participatory research. Beyond my doctoral training, I pursued the most intensive clinical settings available to sharpen these skills including the Veterans Affairs system with focused training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE).
